Today I Am Sunburned

Today I am sunburned
I glow in the dark
Energy emanates from my legs
I could heat a small room.

Today I am sunburned
Sticky with aloe
And wincing inside shrinking skin.
In stripy pajamas
Of mostly red, some white trim
(Where socks were, where shorts ended)
I survey a planned tan
gone wildly awry.

Today I am sunburned
The more fool me,
My face aged in hours,
My corpus a playground
for cancerous cells.

I lie very still
A terrible power fills me.
Like Dr. David Banner
I accidentally overdosed.
Don't make me angry.
